Angsts as Students Remember Black Tuesday

 


December 7th, 2021 was a date that would not be forgotten in the memory of any student in Grammar school environ.

 It was a 'Black Tuesday' in which a run-away truck driver trying to escape from road safety officials rammed into pupils of Ojodu Junior Grammar School, Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Grammar School, Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior High School turns within the Grammar School Ojodu Axis, turns sending them to their early graves.

According to confirmed reports, the truck driver escaped from road safety officials (including VIO) and speed off to Aguda in front of the Excellent Hotel where watered aggrieved and enraged students, residents and hoodlums apprehended the culprit and forced the truck to a half and descended on him with all kinds of tools available before the man fled for his dear life.

Seeing this, the hoodlums took advantage of the situation and started carting away the goods from the truck which contained cartoons of detergents and other valuables. The vehicle was later drove to the Grammar School Police Station at Ojodu.

No one ever thought that student would keep memory of the event just like what played out during the END-SARS.

Wednesday 7th December,2022 makes the ugly event to be exactly one year in which nothing less than fifteen student lost their lives. It rained `sorrow, tears and blood` as tears oozed out freely from students, parents, friends, relatives, who lost dear ones in that fatal accident.

The student around the environment caused some skirmish which led to disruption of vehicles and human traffics. Broken bottles were seen along the Oba Ogunnusi, which was footprint of student protests. The students took to the road in protest and were later disrupted by the police.

While fielding report from the student about the “Black Tuesday” many of the student were really enraged and spoke emotionally about what happened that fateful day as it was still fresh in their memory.

Feyisara, A student of Ojodu Junior Grammar School spoke in an emotional tone about one of the most popular student in the school, “Doyin” who eventually became a victim of the unfortunate incident and was snatched by the cold hands of death.

“She should have been in SS3 by now, she was in SS2 when the incident happened, Everyone loves her because she used to come visit us in the Junior School. I learnt that she was the only child of her parent, I spoke to her mother after the incident, but I heard that her mother has relocated to the village.

Another student, Jawat said that he had gone home when he heard that some student were protesting.

The students actually started the protest in the school, but the teachers prevented them.

Bassey Saviour, a JSS3 student said, It was painful to lose A.k.a “Bobo. T” whose brain gushed out. He said he joined in the protest with other students, but they were prevented by their teachers and they were later chased out of the school premises. Saviour said, the action of the reprehension of the teachers could not stop the students as they still go out to protest. “You know we student can be very stubborn, after the teachers sent us out of the school premises, we still continue our protest outside the school” he said.

It was a day we should always remember because I lost a close friend named “Doyin” peace said.

Tolani, A student from Omole Senior Grammar School who said he was eye witness of the black event last year, we were writing examination when that unfortunate incident happened. I heard that Bobo was involved in that incident that fateful day, because I came to see my friend in this school.

Some student said they could not eat when that fatal incident happened. A student said a one minutes silence was observed on the assembly ground while everyone also prayed for the repose of souls that were lost and grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

Even on the social media, the students also air their views about this fatal happening.
