School Connect Magazine is a school/student-friendly magazine aimed designed to cover school events and activities. School Connect Magazine was born out of the need to make the school active reporters of their own news and events through a community of well-trained students reporters. In this regard, events going on in the school like: interhouse sport, quiz, debate, literary/debating, prize giving day, awards, school anniversary, valedictory service, school tournament, science competition, special talents among others are covered by the students themselves. Hence, the school report their own news, break their own news fresh through the instrumentality of trained students reporters in the school. The idea is that there is the need to democratize media reportage so that students or the school are active reporters of their own news instead of being just passive consumers of just any news content in traditional media. Through the training we offer to students, they are get first hand training in new media or citizen's journalism and they can report their own news with new communication gadgets like: the mobile phone, i-pad, laptop or just anything handy.
Since there is a paradigm shift from the traditional method of news reportage now as the social media is changing the face of news writing and reportage, we hope to keep the school abreast of this change and also train them on the new normal of school media and reportage.
School Connect, a magazine that is wholly dedicated to covering school event came on board when because there are many activities going on in the school that should come on the front page of a newspaper or magazine, but those news are not often reported because they aren't considered 'economic' or 'political' news. This is the reason why School Connect came on board to give the school a voice and help them to cover their own news through ethical trained students journalist - Citizen's Journalists.
Vision
To see a new breed of Citizen's Journalists covering and reporting and breaking their own news fresh their own news in the school community (even before conventional media arrives the school) instead of being passive consumers of traditional news contents.
Mission
To raise up a new breeds of ethical, professional and analytical citizen's journalists within the school community.
